Minutes for IFB Meeting, March 21, 2007, Station 1
 
President Rodger Birchfield called the meeting of the Indianapolis Fire Buffs to order at 1931 on March 21, 2007. Fourteen members were present; one member was excused. Guests: Chris Foster, former IFD; Chris Allen and Eric Scheffel, both with Indiana Fire Trucks.com
 
A moment of silence was observed to honor deceased members and firefighters. The Pledge of Allegiance followed.
 
A motion to approve the minutes of the February 2007 meeting was made by David Chambers. The motion was approved.
 
The Treasurer presented his report for February 2007. A motion to approve the Treasurer’s report for January 2007 was made by Mark Burke. The motion was approved unanimously.
 
MAIL: Inside Indiana (Salvation Army publication) and catalog of training books and videos. Also received was a letter from Local 416 regarding their June 8 Golf Tournament.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
MUSEUM: no report
APPARATUS: Bloomington engine was in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. We were Division II, Unit 3 this year. Per Dennis Chambers, a “good time was had by all.”
Membership: will follow-up with our three guests.
CANTEEN: Mark Burke reported he has stocked ice in the freezer at Station 12 for the purpose of being able to ice the coolers and go when there is a run.
Canteen Runs:
March 3 – 8737 Wysong Avenue, box alarm for residence fire with entrapment. Response turned into civilian fatality. Ed McMichael responded at 0035 and served 25 firefighters with coffee, hot chocolate, Gatorade, water, and snacks. Secured at 0150.
March 7 – 1138 N. Tecumseh, box alarm for double residence. Response by Mark Burke at 1715. Served 20-25 firefighters with water and candy bars and refueled canteen.
March 14 – 3227 Merrick Lane, box alarm for apartment fire (off 38th Street and Kessler). Response by Ed McMichael at 2130; secured at 2235. Served 30 firefighters with Gatorade, water, and snacks.
March 20 – Union Station downtown, special detail. IFD was assisting IMPD and had been on the scene for several hours. IFD’s initial detail was Ladder 7 and one of the support cars. It grew in scope to include Tac 7, Ladder 13, Battalion 13, and several other support vehicles. Ed McMichael responded at 1803 and served water, Gatorade, and snacks to about 20 firefighters. Secured at 1850.
March 21 – 138 S. Hawthorn, box alarm for double residence fire. Mark Burke responded. Upon his arrival at 1145, companies were picking up hose, so he disregarded and returned to Station 12.
COMMUNICATIONS: Dennis Chambers reported he is awaiting the new pagers. Bill reminders have been sent. All accounts must be paid by April 30 or face service cutoff.
STATION 12: Mary Morgan reported Station 12 now has a trash can again. She is still working with Joe Bender on the interior issues. Wishard Medic 27 has had cable hooked up. Even with all of the heavy rains recently ---- no leaks!

 
 
OLD BUSINESS:
 
FDIC – April 16-21 is approaching. Jim Williamson will be leading this year’s activities and he obtained a list of members wishing to work. Any Club member not present at the meeting and who would like to work FDIC should contact Jim at 317-538-9535 or e-mail jimw904(at)yahoo.com.
Jim is working on the manning schedule.
 
Jerry Traub discussed (and displayed) the most recent issue of Turnout.
 
Paul McMichael presented a preliminary roster. Jerry Traub is going to research further, and a more finalized version will be presented at the next meeting.
 
NEW BUSINESS:
 
Jim Williamson made a motion that the Club sponsor a tee at the June 8 Local 416 Golf Tournament. The motion passed.
 
Mark Burke reported there will be the Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Training class on March 31 from 8-4 at 3100 N. Meridian Street. Anyone interested should contact Bert Williams at 937-7000.
 
Mark Burke reported he had obtained a quote for IFB logos. Five inch logos would be $13, and license plates would be $18.50. Several members requested information on other items. Mark is going to research further and give information at the next meeting.
 
Brett Jackson asked about IFB website. He indicated he would be willing to assist in getting site built and ready to upload along with guests Chris Allen and Eric Scheffel. Jerry Traub and Jim Williamson reported there is server room available from Steve Hanson in Wisconsin. Jim Williamson will research that end further and report next meeting.
 
Jerry Traub discussed possibility of hosting Tri-Regional Meeting in conjunction with the Extra Alarm Association of the Twin Cities. Jim Williamson made a motion to that effect; however, the matter was tabled until the next meeting to allow further investigation by Williamson and Traub.
 
Tod Parker showed a photo collage from the Zionsville apartment fire that is available for purchase.
