Minutes for IFB meeting, March 19, 2008, IFD #14.
 
President Rodger Birchfield called the meeting of the Indianapolis Fire Buffs to order at 1938 on March 19, 2008. Twelve members were present; six members was excused. There was one guest: Peter M. Boule’, his first meeting.  
 
A moment of silence was observed to honor deceased members and local firefighters. The Pledge of Allegiance followed.
 
A motion to approve the minutes of the February, 2008 meeting was made and seconded. The motion was approved.
 
The Treasurer presented the February, 2008 report. Moved and seconded for approval. Motion approved. The new Share 16 at F/F Credit Union for RSU (Rehab Support Unit) account contributions and expenses was included.
 

MAIL: SPAAMFAA magazine; SPAAMFAA summer convention notice, July 30,31, Aug 1,2, in New York; United Way letter advising anonymous $52 donation to IFB during last campaign; note from Life member John Trimble from TX address for change to e-mail address for newsletter.


COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TURNOUT:  2007 Fall/Winter issue of 64 pages has been printed for those who requested that version through Jim Williamson. (Dennis Chambers will set up a link from our club website to the Turnout site for easier access by our club members. Accomplished.)   

MUSEUM: no report

APPARATUS: Dennis Chambers reported we were represented by 1956 Maxim pumper, ex City of Lawrence, at St. Patrick’s Day parade Monday, March 17.  Members Dennis Chambers, David Chambers. John Burris, Tod Parker, Brett Jackson and Jerry Traub participated. Associate member Dan Greene and his family got to ride the apparatus and were shown in the Indianapolis STAR parade pictures online at <indystar.com>.
Bloomington Ford rear brake still not fixed. Dennis needs proper equipment to get tires/rims removed. Rodger Birchfield agreed to assist with proper tools and/or assistance from IFD shops.

MEMBERSHIP: Peter Boule’ present for first meeting and introduced himself. He applied for Associate membership.  Applicant David Palin was excused as his U. S. Army Ranger son was in town for a rare visit and David was excused for his second meeting.

CANTEEN:
Ed McMichael presented mid-Feb to mid-Mar, 2008 canteen runs.

Feb 23—3149 Shick (IFD) single res, Box+, one fatality, Ed, Mark Burke, Rodger Birchfield, in service 1956.
Feb 23—1800 6th St, Beech grove, (BGFD, IFD, Perry Twp) res, Box+, Ed, in service 2248.
Mar 1—609 N Tacoma (IFD), dbl res, Box +, one fatality, Ed, Rodger, Dave Babcock, in service 2248.
Mar 16—718 E 34th St. (IFD), vacant apts, 2nd alarm, Ed, Mary Morgan, in service 0418.
 
RSU update: New auto, general liability and umbrella liability program through Volunteer Firemen’s Insurance Service has been requoted and accepted. Coverage has been bound and
retired IFD chief Doug Walker’s agency has been appointed to handle our policies.
RSU #1 will need a replacement electrical inverter to power appliances. IFD shops has advised that this is an expense they can assist. Ed will further outfit with new coffeemaker and microwave once the inverter is installed.
 

WEBSITE: Dennis will get caught up on entries not yet posted to Website. Time has been limited recently. (Items accomplished.)
 

COMMUNICATIONS:   All of the new pagers have been shipped to those who had the older units. If you have not contacted Dennis Chambers to let him know you received your pager in the mail so that the conversion could be made, please do so no later than April 15. ***After that date, OLD pagers will NOT receive any fire runs.***  If you have not finalized this change, contact Dennis at (317) 442-4968. All 2008 invoices have been sent out; again, contact Dennis for this and any other difficulties with new units.

THE REAL STATION 12: Mark Burke reported a steam pipe repair in the basement. Basement lighting needs to be upgraded. Jim Williamson agreed to assist. Hot water heater temperature was adjusted downward. Various awards and commendations that have been in folders will be placed in frames and mounted in the Watch room. Mark advised that two precincts voted during 7th district Special Election March 11. Several voters were escorted on tours through the building by various club members who assisted during the day. Thanks to all who supported this activity.
 

OLD BUSINESS: Jim Williamson submitted a manning table for rehab support duties during FDIC. At this time, we are scheduled for Monday, Apr 7 and Tuesday, Apr 8 activities at Wayne Twp. training site and IFD site at old Naval Avionics, 16th and Arlington. Apparatus staging will follow. If other requests are made, additional units will be required from the Salvation Army, as the field kitchen unit is out for front end alignment repairs. Jim is awaiting receipt of donation from FDIC to the Salvation Army for their support.

NEW BUSINESS
Firefighter and friend of several club members David Sherfick of Brown Township, Morgan County, died in an on-duty traffic accident February 4 when an adverse vehicle crossed the center-line and struck his ambulance head-on. It was moved and seconded that a $50 donation will be sent to the memorial fund established after this event.
 
Rodger Birchfield presented copies of his recently-published book, “Stutz Fire Engine Company, Commemorative Edition”.  Containing 248 pages, there are many pictures and stories of the famed Indianapolis-based company and its subsequent manufacturers. Autographed and numbered, they are available for $42.35 from Rodger, 563-2287. Great book!
