Minutes for IFB meeting, March 18, 2009, IFD #27

President Jerry Traub called the meeting to order at 1931. Thirteen members were present; three members were excused.

A moment of silence was observed to honor deceased members and local firefighters. The Pledge of Allegiance followed.

A motion to approve the minutes of the February 2009 was made by Jim Williamson and seconded. The motion was approved.

The Treasurer’s report was presented for February 2009. Moved by Jim Williamson for approval and seconded. Motion approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

ARTIFACTS AND PHOTO ARCHIVES: (Committee: Rodger Birchfield, chair, Ron Cunningham, Brett Jackson, Jack Finney, members) Reported work is still underway establishing the photo archives and copying negatives.

APPARATUS: (Committee: Dennis Chambers, chair, Rodger Birchfield, CL Hankins, members) Dennis reported the Bloomington Ford was in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. It performed flawlessly. He noted the decorations done by Jerry Traub looked great.

MEMBERSHIP: (Committee: Club Secretary, chair) Applications for Associate Membership status have been received from Phillip S. Barrett and Mary E. Barrett. Phillip is an IFD firefighter at Station 16 C shift. A motion to accept both Phillip and Mary as Associate Members was made by Ed McMichael, and the motion was passed. Richard Crawford, a building inspector for the City has expressed interest in becoming a member. Information will be emailed to him.

RSU 1 is needing some maintenance repairs. It is slated for training support, and we will get it to the Shops following that detail. RSU 2 also needs repairs. We will get it to the Shops as soon as possible. Jim, his dad, Peter, and Brett have been working on RSU 3. At last test, all systems were functioning properly with that unit.

 

WEBSITE: (Committee: Dennis Chambers, chair) Dennis reported all information is up to date.

COMMUNICATIONS/PAGERS: (Committee: Dennis Chambers and Dave Palin, co-chairs) Dennis reported he had a meeting with our account rep on March 16 to review rates, overcharges, and the overall program. He reported many people have turned in their pagers and subscribed to the mobile phone text messaging. Discussion ensued and the matter was tabled for further Executive Board consideration. Dennis turned in expenses related to maintaining the pager program totaling $171.31. A motion to authorize the Treasurer to reimburse Dennis C for these expenses was made by Jim Williamson, and the motion was passed.

RESERVE STATION 12: (Committee: Mark Burke, chair, Dave Palin, Jim Williamson, Dave Babcock, members) Dave P reported a scanner will be purchased for Station 12 and intercommed through the station. Ken Oskins assisted us by installing a new security light on the northeast corner of the building. This light will illuminate both the back parking area and the alley side of the building. Ken also installed new bulbs in the fixtures at the front of the station between the bay doors. The boiler was inspected on March 12 by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (and passed). Dave B is getting us some new 4’ bulbs. Mark and Dave P will continue their maintenance work.

INSURANCE: (Committee: Jerry Traub, chair. Ed McMichael, Ryan Duffin, members) No report.

TURNOUT: Jerry Traub reported work would be started on the spring issue shortly.

OLD BUSINESS:

Mark Burke said there has been enough wishing to purchase scanners, and he is proceeding. Checks need to be sent to Mark asap.

Jerry Traub reported that there was a total of four checks received as of the meeting date for the Bob Woods’ Memorial. Appropriate notes will be sent.

FDIC – Jim Williamson is coordinating IFB’s work with FDIC. He went over schedules as far as he has been advised. Members wishing to work should contact Jim.

NEW BUSINESS:

Jerry Traub reported the spring IFBA Board Meeting will be Saturday, April 4, in Washington DC. As a member of the board, he said he will be attending.

Rodger Birchfield said the new IFD promotion list was out.
