Our Club was approached by IFD to assist with the establishment of a more formalized rehab area, especially at second alarm or higher fires. Specifically, we would be asked to establish a Rehab area and become the Rehab Officer, reporting to the IC on the comings and goings of firefighting companies. We would continue to supply refreshments, but we would be more involved with making sure firefighters had rehabbed completely before heading back into service. Training by IFD will be conducted prior to the establishment of these new parameters. We would gain two department vehicles for carrying supplies and becoming a warming/cooling vehicle during weather extremes, defined as above 92 degrees heat index or below 10 degrees wind chill. In addition, we would have three additional radios assigned, and we would be re-designated to RSU-1 to RSU-5 (Rehab Support Unit).

Issues with the above include daytime coverage. Local 416 is going to be approached to see if there are any retirees who might like to become involved in our rehab efforts. Further discussion ensued. Dave Babcock made a motion to adopt the more formalized rehab program as presented. The motion was approved. Rodger Birchfield and Ed McMichael will continue to work with Chief Nicoson regarding this matter.

WEBSITE: www.indianapolisfirebuffs.org is alive! Dennis Chambers has several web pages up and available for perusal. COMMUNICATIONS: Dennis Chambers reported he has received a “few” new pagers to replace some that quit working. Still looking for the balance of our order. Otherwise, status quo.
