Minutes for IFB meeting, August 20, 2008, IFD #20A
President Rodger Birchfield called the meeting to order at 1930. Fourteen members were present; five members were excused; two guests, Beth Bellamy and Mark Bellamy.
A moment of silence was observed to honor deceased members and local firefighters. The Pledge of Allegiance followed.
Motion made and accepted to suspend order of meeting for special guest and presentation:
Recently appointed Chief Brian Sanford of Indianapolis Fire Department was present. President Birchfield introduced him and presented our club’s recognition of his appointment—framed original printing mats from The Indianapolis STAR article about his new position, dated July, 2008. All members present introduced themselves to the chief. He acknowledged our contribution to the department and its personnel. He looks forward to working with us and the RSU’s.
A motion to approve the minutes of the July, 2008 meeting was made and seconded. The motion was approved.
The Treasurer’s report was presented for July, 2008. Moved and seconded for approval. Motion approved.

APPARATUS:
Bloomington Ford is back together. Sockets and adapters have been purchased to torque the lug nuts back into place. These will be retained for future brake or tire repair. Ford should be available for 9/11 at the Rathskeller memorial observance.

Applicant Beth Bellamy attended her second meeting and her husband Mark his first. Rodger Birchfield took pictures for ID cards after the meeting. New ones should be out soon.

TURNOUT:
2008 IFBA Racine convention special edition will be available in September. Fall/Winter 2008 has Oct. 10 submission deadline, with Nov. 1 publication date.

COMMUNICATIONS:
Still in discussion with pager company about disputed charges. Test is being done on a couple of pager units to receive MECA pages direct to cell phones. This requires text messaging + capacity for 250 text messages per month. Cost has not been set. Contact Dennis Chamber direct at (317) 442-4968 for info about sign up.
THE "REAL" STATION 12:
RSU #3 is parked there. The Salvation Army field kitchen is at HQ on Meridian St. Wishard ambulance tenants are doing a nice job on in-house cleaning. Additional skids of bottled water are being obtained from Bert at The Salvation Army. Mark and Ed will contact Wishard management about rent adjustment for projected heating gas price increase for winter 08/09.
OLD BUSINESS:
2008 IFBA convention in Racine, WI., attended by Ed McMichael as Delegate and Jerry Traub as Alternate. Written report delivered at meeting. New president is Mark Platek, York, PA. Stuart Nathan from Baltimore is new Director of Publicity. 2009 convention in Washington, DC.
Fire Buff photo ID cards will be processed shortly.
Mark Burke showed copies of updated roster of Active members, nearing completion.

NEW BUSINESS:
2008 Hawaii vacation trip raffle fundraiser will begin Tues, Sep 16 at Local 416 retiree dinner & meeting. Sales will follow over four payday weekends, with drawing at Indianapolis local meeting Tuesday, Nov. 18. Ticket sellers volunteered and will begin station visits Sep 26/27/28. $3,500 total prizes, with $2,500 for first, eleven other cash prizes. Must be sworn IFD f/f or rettree.
