The meeting of the Indianapolis Fire Buffs was called to order
at 1932 on September 20,
2006, by President Rodger Birchfield. Eight members were
present; four members were
excused. There were no guests.
A moment of silence was observed to honor deceased members and
firefighters. The Pledge
of Allegiance followed.
A motion to approve the minutes of the August 2006 meeting was
made by David
Chambers. The motion was approved unanimously.
A motion to approve the Treasurer’s report for August 2006 was
made by Jim Williamson.
The motion was approved unanimously.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
MUSEUM: no report
APPARATUS: Dennis Chambers reported Lawrence FD borrowed our
engine for “Pop”
McCoy funeral.
MEMBERSHIP: Membership ID cards are still pending per Rodger
Birchfield. Membership
committee, consisting of Dennis Chambers, Paul McMichael, and
Jerry Traub, met and
compiled an updated membership list. Traub reviewed the list
with members, and minor
changes and updates were made. The list is now going back to the
Treasurer so he can
update his records. It will then be published to the membership
as an addition to the minutes
in a coming month. For the record, the “Official” Membership
List is a joint responsibility of
the Secretary and Treasurer, with Dennis Chambers (who maintains
a list because of the
pagers) as a back-up.
CANTEEN: Batteries on the canteen have been replaced, and it is
on station at (the real)
Station 12. No runs.
COMMUNICATIONS: Dennis Chambers reported some payments were made
as a result of
the dunning letters. The payment deadline was 9/20. Any unpaid
accounts will be
disconnected.
STATION 12: Mary Morgan reported the wall repairs/reconstruction
is done. A motion to
pay Steve Graham for the wall repairs was made by Jim
Williamson. The motion passed. Bill
Bowman is working on a window estimate. Approval was also given
to rebuild and re-anchor
the back door. A motion to purchase a shop vacuum was made by
Jerry Traub. The motion
passed.
OLD BUSINESS: Jerry Traub and Jim Williamson reported that on
August 29 a luncheon
meeting was held between the Club officers, Jerry Traub, Chief
Jim Greeson, and Public
Safety Director Earl Morgan. Morgan was given information about
IFB, and Chief Greeson
added a glowing endorsement of the Club’s activities. Mr. Morgan
remarked that having
such an organization in place would be helpful for Homeland
Security matters. He added he
would do anything to assist our organization.
Raffle: Jerry Traub and Ed McMichael worked the IFD’s/Local 416
Retiree’s Dinner on 9/19.
Tickets were given to those present and additional tickets
(about $330) were sold. Tickets
sales in the firehouses begin 9/29.

NEW BUSINESS:
Jerry Traub reported that Ira Rubin’s mother, Cheryl Novak,
passed away on 9/5/06. Novak
was an IFBA past president (1992) and the first female IFBA
President. On a motion by
Jerry Traub, a motion to send a card and memorial contribution
was approved.
Jim Williamson presented a motion to contribute $50 to the Kabe
Kotheimer Fund.
Kotheimer is a Speedway firefighter who was hit was a second car
following a minor traffic
accident. The motion passed.
Rodger Birchfield distributed a flyer promoting the book
Stutz Fire Engine Co. History,
authored by Rodger Birchfield! Pre-order deadline is
10/15/06.
The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to assist at the
upcoming Coats for Kids. Coats
will be collected and sorted the week of October 9-13 and
distributed on October 14.
Several club members are already signed up. Anyone interested
can get information from
Mary Morgan or Ed McMichael.
