Minutes for IFB meeting, September 17, 2008, IFD #21B

President Rodger Birchfield called the meeting to order at 1930. Fifteen members were present; four members were excused; two guests, Beth Bellamy and Mark Bellamy, were excused.

A moment of silence was observed to honor deceased members and local firefighters. The Pledge of Allegiance followed.

A motion to approve the minutes of the August, 2008 meeting was made and seconded. The motion was approved.

The Treasurer’s report was presented for August, 2008. Moved and seconded for approval. Motion approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

MUSEUM: No report.

APPARATUS: Bloomington Ford is back together. Pomp Tire service advised that tires will be o.k. Ford was available for 9/11 observance at the Rathskeller restaurant. Outright ownership of antique units confirmed during discussion.

MEMBERSHIP: Applicants Beth and Mark Bellamy advised conflict about attending this meeting but wished to continue process. Picture I. D. cards were delivered to those whose photos were done.

CANTEEN:

Ed McMichael presented mid-August to mid-September, 2008 canteen runs:

Cooling fan on board RSU#1. RSU #2 at Van’s Electric for upgrades. RSU #3 now at old IFD #12. Radiator has been replaced; Jim Williamson and Mary Morgan started on interior remodeling. Assignments made for IFD daytime training at 16th & Arlington week of Sept 22.

Ed is meeting with Retirees group Sep 23, 6 p.m. at Rathskeller parking lot for RSU #2 training.

TURNOUT: 2008 IFBA Racine convention special edition is a work in process. Fall/Winter 2008 has Oct. 10 submission deadline, with Nov. 1 publication date.

WEBSITE: No report.

COMMUNICATIONS: Still in discussion with pager company about disputed charges. Test is being done on a couple of pager units to receive MECA pages direct to cell phones. Cost has not been set. Contact Dennis Chambers direct at (317) 442-4968 for info about sign up.

Dave Manlove advised that Radio Shack has reduced trunked radio price to $379 from almost $500. Tod Parker advised that newer model should be out soon, price not known.

THE "REAL" STATION 12: RSU #3 is parked there. A rent increase has been agreed to by Wishard for the cost of fuel for Winter heat. Dave Palin helped get building alarm repaired and upgraded. Alley window near apparatus bay will be repaired. Medic #20 may be housed there while Comm Hospital East does renovation of its area at the hospital. The Salvation Army will have a training conference Sat, Oct 18, at Castleton U.M. Church. See flyer.

OLD BUSINESS:

Francis Schoppenhorst passed away Sep 9, 2008 after extended illness. Funeral and internment Sat, Sep 12. Club was represented and visited with family. $50 memorial donation will be made to Wishard Hospital Burn Center. "Schoppy" stories were shared with younger/newer members.

Mark Burke provided finished copies of updated roster of Active members. Well done, Mark.

2008 Hawaii raffle for IFD began Sep 16 at Local 416 retiree dinner. Sales will continue next four payday weekends. Drawing Nov 18 at Tuesday night Union meeting. Sales to uniform IFD personnel and retirees.

NEW BUSINESS:

Treasurer Cliff Polley from Retired Firefighters forwarded cash donation for our expenses with RSU’s. Written acknowledgment will be made, with our gratitude.

Checks were received and given to Treasurer for return premiums of prior Auto and Liability policies that were replaced by VFIS insurance package when we rewrote for RSU coverages.

List of promotions announced Tuesday Sep 16 by IFD Chief Brian Sanford were read.
