Minutes for IFB Meeting, October 18, 2006, Station 29
 
The meeting of the Indianapolis Fire Buffs was called to order at 1933 on October 18, 2006, by President Rodger Birchfield. Eleven members were present; three members were excused. There was one guest: Tod Parker. Mr. Parker has been operating a website with fire ground photographs taken mainly on the east coast, and he has now relocated to Indianapolis. He hopes to continue his work locally. His web address is ayrow.com.
 
A moment of silence was observed to honor deceased members and firefighters. The Pledge of Allegiance followed.
 
A motion to approve the minutes of the September 2006 meeting was made by Jim Williamson. The motion was approved unanimously.
 
A motion to approve the Treasurer’s report for September 2006 was made by Jim Williamson. The motion was approved unanimously.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
MUSEUM: no report
APPARATUS: Discussion on ’65 Chevy ex-Brown County apparatus that might be available.
MEMBERSHIP: Membership ID cards are still pending per Rodger Birchfield.
CANTEEN: Canteen runs: Sept. 25, 2006 2nd alarm at 10th and Sterling. Canteen manned by Jim Williamson, Mary Morgan, Jack Finney, Rodger Birchfield, and Dave Babcock. Served about 50.
Oct. 4, 2006 Box alarm with two extra engines at 11139 Niagara in Fishers. Three departments responded to working residence (Fishers, Lawrence Township, and Noblesville). Fishers FD had three lightning strikes reported within about a 20 minute period. Ed McMichael responded and served about 30-35 firefighters.
Oct. 7, 2006 2nd alarm plus extra companies at funeral home fire 25th Street and Andrew J. Brown. Second alarm sounded about 12:10 am; club was on the scene at 12:30. Canteen manned by Mary Morgan, Mark Burke, Ed McMichael, and Rodger Birchfield. Served about 75 firefighters and spectators. This fire featured five master streams. Club was on the scene until 5:30 am.
Oct. 15, 2006 Box alarm at Williamsburg Apartments (roughly 4400 N. Arlington). Ed McMichael responded, on scene for about 45 minutes, and served 30.
Jim Williamson reported he had re-organized the canteen. He would like coolers stocked and ready-to-go, so only ice needs to be added.
COMMUNICATIONS: no report
STATION 12: Mary Morgan and Mark Burke reported the roof repairs are to start within two weeks. They are scheduling a meeting to get started on the interior damage. The water heater, which sprang a leak and which was in extremely poor condition, was to be replaced on Oct. 20. A dumpster is on-site. Broken window replacements have been completed with the Club paying part of the bill, and the Emerald Society paying the balance. Back door repairs are still pending.
 
OLD BUSINESS: Jerry Traub reported the raffle tickets are out and sales underway. Initial response has been very good.
 
Disaster Training at the Salvation Army on Nov. 4: several Club members are signed up for this training. Jim Williamson made a motion that the Club pay for the training cost at $35 per member. The motion passed.
 
NEW BUSINESS:
 
Jim Williamson reported that State Fire Marshall Roger Johnson is interested in regional canteen service. Jim is to schedule a meeting in early November to explore this further.
 
General elections are Tuesday, Nov. 7. Voting will be held at Station 12 (Sherman Drive) as has been done in the past. Mary Morgan will open the building on Nov. 7.
 
Club elections are also in November. A nominating committee was appointed, consisting of Jim Williamson and Mark Burke. Committee report will be presented at the November meeting.
 
Washington Township has some reserve members. There was a suggestion of getting them involved with the Club. Rodger Birchfield and Jerry Traub are going to look into this further.
 
The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to assist at the upcoming Coats for Kids. Coats will be collected and sorted the week of October 9-13 and distributed on October 14.

All Club members, and especially ticket sellers, are invited to the Raffle Drawing on Nov. 21 at 7:00 pm at the Local 416 Union Hall, 748 Massachusetts Ave. Please arrive at 6:00, if possible, for additional ticket sales.
