Minutes for IFB Meeting, November 21, 2007, Station 10
 
President Rodger Birchfield called the meeting of the Indianapolis Fire Buffs to order at 1931 on November 21, 2007. Nine members were present; three members were excused. There was one guest: C.L. Hankins.
 
A moment of silence was observed to honor deceased members and local firefighters. The Pledge of Allegiance followed.
 
A motion to approve the minutes of the October 2007 meeting was made by Paul McMichael. The motion was approved.
 
The Treasurer presented the October 2007 Treasurer’s report. A motion to approve the report was made by Mark Burke. The motion was approved.
 
MAIL: Thank you card from Decatur Township for recent canteen run and a letter regarding the upcoming IFD Recognition Dinner.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
TURNOUT: Ed McMichael reported the special convention issue of Turnout has been published. The normal fall issue is being compiled.
MUSEUM: no report
APPARATUS: Dennis Chambers reported the right rear brake on the Bloomington Ford has seized up. It was okay when the unit was pulled out of the bay for elections on November 6, but when he attempted to return it after the voting was completed, the truck would not move. It was finally returned to its spot in (the real) Station 12 through the efforts of Interstate Towing ($165 please), and Dennis said he will work on the brakes as soon as he can.
MEMBERSHIP: C.L. Hankins was present for his second meeting.
CANTEEN: Canteen runs:
Oct 19 – Mills and Meridian, box alarm + for working double residence fire (IFD/Perry). Response by Brett Jackson, Ed McMichael, Dave Babcock, Rodger Birchfield, Matt and Bob Woods at 1822, serving water and Gatorade to 30 firefighters. Secured at 2007.
Oct 21 – 4931 Robison, Tiffany’s Landscaping, box alarm for working mulch fire (Pike/Zionsville/Carmel). Water, Gatorade, coffee, hot chocolate, snacks, sandwiches, and pizza were served to about 40 firefighters by Mary Morgan, Ed McMichael, Jerry Traub, and Tod Parker. Response times 1653 to 0008.
Oct 25 – 24th and Broadway. RSU 1 was used as a prop for a movie shoot conducted by the People’s Burn Foundation. Mary Morgan and Ed McMichael manned RSU 1 from 2100 to 2300.
Oct 27 – 6060 Brookworthy, Box alarm for a gas leak at an apartment building. Ron Cunningham responded at 1422 and was disregarded at the scene. In service at 1457.
Nov 3 – 308 N. Keystone, box alarm for a working residence. Response was made by Ron Cunningham at 1143, service water and snacks to four firefighters, two civilians, and three dogs.
Nov 4 – 111 E. 16th Street, 2nd alarm for a working apartment fire. Ed McMichael responded at 2250 and was disregarded at the scene by 1201. Apparently, there was a pile of newspapers on fire on the third floor, and the fire was quickly extinguished. No one was served and secured at 2330.
Nov 10 – 3247 Winthrop, Box + for a working residence fire. Ron Cunningham responded at 1142, service Gatorade, water, and snacks to about 14 firefighters and five civilians. In service at 1240.
Nov 10 – 456 N. Meridian, 2nd alarm for an electrical fire at the Post Office Building. Response by Ed McMichael, Jim Williamson, Dave Babcock, Ron Cunningham, and Brett Jackson. Gatorade, water, and snacks were served to about 50 firefighters. Response times: 1326 to 1532.
Nov 16 – 3150 Rand Road, 2nd alarm for working fire at a business (Decatur/Wayne/Mooresville/
Speedway). Responded at 1500 by Ed McMichael, Gene Morris, Mark Burke, Rodger Birchfield, and Tod Parker. Coffee, hot chocolate, Gatorade, water, snacks, sandwiches, and pizza were served to about 75 firefighters and five civilians. Secured at 2300 when operations were scaled back for the evening. The fire continued to smolder for several days thereafter.
 
The Club is still working on funding for the insurance for the RSU’s. Several ideas were discussed, and Ed McMichael will work on getting this area taken care of by our next meeting.
 
WEBSITE: www.indianapolisfirebuffs.org) Dennis Chambers reported he has updated the website and has also put up some new materials. He was given some ancient new articles concerning the Buffs. He will try to scan and upload those to the website as well.
COMMUNICATIONS: Dennis Chambers reported he is getting the new batch of replacement pagers out. To conserve gas and save time, he is going to mail many of them out. He is not sure how much longer the old pagers will work because of the frequency the old pagers operate on. By the way, look for pager invoices in December.
THE “REAL” STATION 12: Mark Burke reported one of the new SA canteens is on station at the 12’s. The older Field Kitchen is having some repairs made to it. Larry Campbell fixed the dryer for $65 (Thanks Larry!!). And the station continues to look great!
 
OLD BUSINESS:
 
Ed McMichael reported the 2007 Raffle was successfully concluded with the winners’ drawing on Nov. 20. Please see the winners listed below. Jerry Traub will present the final numbers at our next meeting.
 
Ron Cunningham presented the Nominating Committee’s slate of officers for 2008:

There being no nominations from the floor, and upon unanimous voice vote, the persons noted were elected to the positions indicated. The Treasurer, Paul McMichael, is in the middle of his two-year term; therefore, no nominations were necessary for his position.
 
NEW BUSINESS:
 
Mark Burke is going to investigate bell ringing for the Salvation Army.
 
Rodger Birchfield noted the 2009 SPAAMPHA convention will be in Indianapolis.
 
Mark Burke reported the Salvation Army will be conducting their Emergency Services class on January 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Register with Burt Williams at 317-224-1013 (office) or 317-385-9261 (cell).
 
Rodger Birchfield is going to make sure the Past President’s plaque and IFB’s Last Call plaque are updated.
 
A motion was made by Ed McMichael to make our annual Christmas donations to the Salvation Army and IFD’s Fill the Bell. The motion passed.
Justin Birchfield is going to conduct a CPR class on January 19 (January 26 is the alternate date) at (the real) Station 12. Cost will be $25 to $35 per person. He will be teaching the approved Heart Association’s CPR. The class will take 2-3 hours. Start time is 10 a.m. Contact him to sign up.
 
A motion to adjourn was made at 2045by Ed McMichael. The motion passed.
