Minutes for IFB meeting, November 19, 2008

President Rodger Birchfield called the meeting to order at 1930. Twelve members were present; two members were excused; one guest, Dennis Huff, present for his first meeting.

A moment of silence was observed to honor deceased members and firefighters. The Pledge of Allegiance followed.

A motion to approve the minutes of the October, 2008 meeting was made and seconded. The motion was approved.

The Treasurer’s report was presented for October, 2008. Moved and seconded for approval. Motion approved. Special vote to approve expenses for Nov 1 lunch at IFD #23. Approved.

MAIL: Wishard Memorial Foundation (for Schoppenhorst donation to Fairbanks Burn Center).

IFD Firefighter Recognition Banquet, Jan 23, 2009, Indiana Roof Ballroom. $150 sponsor donation moved and seconded, approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

MUSEUM: No report.

APPARATUS: Bloomington Ford worked well Election Day—moved out/back into old Sta.12 o.k.

MEMBERSHIP: Applicant Dennis Huff attended first meeting. Will download membership application from IFB website.

CANTEEN: Ed McMichael presented mid-October to mid-November, 2008 canteen runs:

RSU #2 is at the shops for lettering. Chief Nicoson will attempt electrical update allocation after end of year. Ed McMichael has crew shirts for Rehab team members. Jim Williamson, Brett Jackson, Peter Boule and Ed McMichael have had several work days for readying RSU #3 for extreme weather service. Quarterly insurance payment due and can be paid from current funds. Personal Services contract is discussions ongoing, final expected 4-6 weeks; this may require some type of Workers Compensation coverage to meet legal guidelines.

TURNOUT: 2008 IFBA Racine convention special edition done and online at IFBA.org.

Fall/Winter regular edition should be available mid-November. (Note: available now). Payment received for 50 copies for Milwaukee area departments through Keith Franz.

WEBSITE: Digital trunking frequencies are now on IFD talk groups. RSU/Rehab reports and monthly minutes are up-to-date on website.

COMMUNICATIONS: Dennis has reviewed income/expenses for 2008. Deficiencies caused by loss of some commercial accounts; pager exchange, and late payments. Billing from pager company is still off several hundred dollars. Obvious that pricing will have to be adjusted. Switch to "phone paging" will be adjusted. Brett Jackson supplied several competing company names. After discussion, seems current carrier is only one to offer services we require.

OLD STATION 12: Hosted presidential election voting for two precincts Nov 4.Winterized and upgraded electrical and plumbing on recent work days. Jim Williamson reports that the wall surrounding the downstairs restroom and stairwell needs to be redone ASAP to avoid a water piping problem.

Wishard medic crews are doing a good job of keeping the house clean.

Rodger reported that IFD 150th anniversary committee granted access to historical documents and memorabilia to prepare anniversary publication.

Mark Burke got a matching paint to hide graffiti that where we were tagged on brick post in front.

OLD BUSINESS: 2008 Hawaii raffle concluded successfully Tuesday, November 18, at Local 416.

Winners are:

Steak dinner for winner and 10C shift will be scheduled in December. A profit was booked. Thanks to all members who called on stations and sold chances to IFD personnel.

ELECTIONS: Report of 2009 election committee submitted: President, Jerry Traub; Vice-President, Mark Burke; Secretary, Ed McMichael; Treasurer (2 yr term) Paul McMichael. No nominations from the floor. Motion made for unanimous vote as slated. Approved. Officers will begin January 1, 2009.

NEW BUSINESS: Inquiry made about bell ringing for The Salvation Army. There were complications last year in getting dates and locations resolved. Jerry Traub will contact Eagle Creek Corps. Beth Bellamy suggested Capt. Croll would be best contact. Mark Burke also mentioned upcoming Radiothon on WIBC is a volunteer opportunity. Motions made and seconded and approved to provide annual holiday donations to IFD Fill the Bell campaign and The Salvation Army kettle drive--$50 each.

Motion to adjourn 2133, seconded by many.
